Despite their name, Humpback whales do not normall Despite their name, Humpback whales do not normally have a hump on their back. Their name derives from the large hump that forms when they arch their back before they make a deep dive into the ocean. Their scientific name, Megaptera novaeangliae, translates as "big-winged New Englander" a reference to the humpback whale population which swam off the coast of New England back in the 17th century. 🐋 #humpbackwhale #whales #whalesofinstagram @tahititourisme @mooreaoceanadventures #undersea #underwater #travel #underwaterphotography #snorkeling #uwphotography #underwaterphoto #underwaterlife #marinelife #nikon @aquaticadigital @nikoncanada #Unterwasser @bigbluedivelights #aquatica @cangeotravel @rcgs_sgrc @the_explorers_club #scuba #scubadiving #explore #jettbritnell @theoceanagency @paditravel #explorerscanada #divewild #nikon_canada @duiken_magazine #aquaticadigital @mobbys_ #mobbys @thescubanews

"A nudibranch that walks on water?" Clown nudibran "A nudibranch that walks on water?" Clown nudibranchs are able to walk, or crawl, on the underside of the water's surface. Amazing, right? It does this by spinning a path of slime which keeps it suspended just below the surface of the water. This feat has nothing to do with a well-known biblical miracle, but it is a skill more often observed in tidepools because "walking on water" is easier than
navigating over and around all the obstacles on the tidepool floor. Gently touch a Clown nudibranch who is water walking, and it will sink unceremoniously to the bottom of the tidepool. #clownnudibranch #nudibranchs #seaslugs #hermitcrab underwaterphotography #scuba #scubadiving #underwaterimages #underwaterphoto @rcgs_sgrc @cangeo @cangeotravel @hakaimag @toqueandcanoe @theoceanagency #underwaterphotographer @rcgs_sgrc #writer @nikoncanada @aquaticadigital #explorerscanada #marinelife @the_explorers_club @luxebeatmagazine @hellobc #britishcolumbia #explorer #exploreroftheseas @cangeoedu @paditravel #travel @mobbys_jp @vancouverislandnorth #aquaticadigital @duiken_magazine #mobbys
